Walk-in flu shot clinics starting Sept. 29 in Mahoning County
It’s a great time to prioritize vaccinations against seasonal influenza, RSV and booster shots for COVID-19.
Mahoning County Public Health will host flu shot clinics at various locations throughout the county beginning later this month.
Who should get a flu shot?
Flu shots protect against the influenza viruses that experts predict will be the most common during the upcoming season.
According to the Mahoning County Public Health Department, everyone six months and older should get a flu vaccine every season.
People who are at a higher risk of developing flu-related complications should also get the vaccine, which includes children between the ages of 6 months and five years old, as well as:
- Adults 50 years of age and older
- Pregnant women and women up to 2 weeks postpartum
- Residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
- Chronic medical conditions such as asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, heart disease, blood disorders, diabetes, extreme obesity, kidney, liver, or endocrine disorders and weakened immune systems due to medications
- Conditions such as cancer, HIV, or AIDS or medications such as chronic steroid use or long-term aspirin use in people younger than 19.

- Oct. 4: 10 a.m. - noon at Boardman United Methodist Church in Fellowship Hall at 6809 Market St. in Youngstown
- Oct. 4: 2 - 5 p.m. at Canfield United Methodist Church at 27 South Broad St. in Canfield
- Oct. 5: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Mahoning County Public Health at 50 Westchester Drive in Youngstown
- Oct. 6: 2:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Beaver Township Woodworth Park at 225 Warren Ave. in Poland

How do you get a flu shot at the Mahoning County Public Health clinic?
No appointments are necessary for the flu clinic.
Patients can walk in, but remember to bring your insurance cards, driver’s license, Medicaid and Medicare cards so the vaccine cost can be billed to insurance providers. According to Mahoning County Public Health, most private insurance are accepted.
As a Vaccines for Children program provider, they’ll also have limited opportunities for uninsured or underinsured children to receive the vaccine for free.
