Exhibit opening this week commemorating 150 years for Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown
There’s a new exhibit opening this week in the Tyler History Center in Youngstown commemorating the Ursuline Sisters’ 150th anniversary.
Founded in 1874 in Youngstown, the Ursuline Sisters dedicate their time to giving back to the community, following the guidelines of St. Angela Merici.
Who are the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown?
The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown comprise individual Catholic nuns serving the community alongside volunteers.
They’ve been serving the community since 1874, establishing programs like the Ursuline Education and Wellness Center, the Beatitude House and an HIV/AIDS ministry.
According to organizers, the Sisters are also teachers, counselors, social workers, administrators and spiritual directors in the greater northeast Ohio community.
The Sisters and guests celebrated their ministry’s 150th anniversary yesterday at The Embassy in Youngstown, joined by Bishop David J. Bonnar of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown and general superior Sister Mary McCormick.
