Pink Out Mahoning Valley slated for Austintown

It’s the first week of October, which means there are only 11 weeks left until winter is projected to hit northeast Ohio.
Here are some of our top picks for outdoor events and things to do to kick off fall in Youngstown:
Tuesday
Grab a pink shirt and head to Pink Out Mahoning Valley, a music festival at 4 - 7 p.m. at Austintown Township Park’s band shell.
Kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with music, including Solo Sixstring, Rachell Joy, Untamed Band and Diane Drapcho.
The park is located at 6000 Kirk Road in Austintown.
Wednesday
Dr. Amy Acton will be presenting at 6:30 p.m. at Stambaugh Auditorium Stambaugh Auditorium Concert Hall part of the Youngstown State University Centofani Symposium Lecture series.
Tickets are free but required for entry. Tickets are available online now until two hours before doors open before the event.
The Florence and Ward Beecher Box Office is open to phone sales from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at (330) 259-9651.
In-person ticket sales will be available at the DeYor Performing Arts Center during business hours, or 1 hour prior to performances at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Thursday
Attend the Friends of the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor party at 6 p.m. and check out a temporary exhibit opening.
The celebration is recognizing the Friends of the Museum who raise money, volunteer and come up with programming ideas.
The temporary exhibit is The Western Reserve Historical Society’s “Remembering the Coal War” and it will be on display at the YHCIL 151 West Wood St. in Youngstown until Nov. 30.
Friday
There’s so much to do at First Friday from 5 - 10 p.m. in downtown Youngstown.
Many of the activities are free and open to everyone, like listening to live music at new Octave Live Music and Event Center on North Phelps Street.
Grab a bite at Penguin City Brewing Company anytime from the Cheeze Louize food truck parked from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. in the lot.
Taste-test recipes and see which first responders come out on top during the Friends of Fido chili cook-off fundraiser at 5 - 8 p.m. inside Penguin City Taproom.
If you’re ready to cheer on local athletes, head to the Covelli Center at 7:05 p.m. as the Youngstown Phantoms take on the Chicago Steel.
LvrBoy takes the stage from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at Noble Creature Wild Ales and Lagers.

Saturday
NAMI Mahoning Valley directly helps 85,000 people impacted by mental illness out of the 426,657 people who call Mahoning and Trumbull counties home.
There’s time to register and participate in NAMI Mahoning Valley’s annual walk at Austintown Township Park.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the “Mental Health Matters” walk starts at 2 -3 p.m. at 6000 Kirk Road.
If you can’t make it to the walk, consider helping NAMI reach their goal of raising $30,000 for programs, support groups and services like free yoga classes and free art activities to residents dealing with mental illness.
Sunday
Youngstown State University Theatre opens its 60-year anniversary season with the production of “Zombie Prom” at 7:30 p.m. in Bliss Hall’s Ford Theater.
“Zombie Prom,” a musical comedy, is set in the atomic 1950s with live accompaniment by the YSU Musical Theatre Ensemble.
The cast includes: Nicholas Atwood, Canton, Ohio; Ryan Thomas Bedi, Marietta, Pennsylvania; Emalee Chappa, Hawkins, Texas; Chloe Nicole Downey, New Waterford, Ohio; Mallory Ehrhart, Antwerp, Ohio; K.J.
