Three students sustain minor injuries in school bus crash in Trumbull County
The Ohio State Highway Patrol Warren Post is investigating a crash involving a Trumbull County school bus and a car.
The crash happened at 7:45 a.m. in Bazetta Township near the intersection of State Route 5 and State Route 305.
What authorities are saying about the crash
According to OSP, a Niles driver behind the wheel of a 2003 Volvo S80 struck a Lakeview school bus from behind while the bus was stopped at a traffic light.
Both vehicles were moved to a nearby parking lot. Bazetta Fire/EMS responded to render aid, along with troopers from Ohio State Highway Patrol Warren Post and the Ohio State Highway Patrol School Bus Inspectors.
According to OSP reports, three of the juvenile passengers of the school bus reported possible injury, while the driver of the Volvo wasn’t injured.
The driver told troopers the cause of the crash was drowsiness.
The students were evaluated by Bazetta Fire/EMS where one was transported to a nearby children’s hospital for further evaluation of minor injuries.
Based on statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 50,000 people are injured every year as a result of drowsy-driving crashes.
Experts recommend always getting adequate sleep before getting behind the wheel, and if you feel drowsy, pull over for a break.
