Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio earns top distinction

The Ohio Department of Education recognized the Educational Service Center (ESC) of Eastern Ohio for its accomplishments.
The ODE announced the ESC of Eastern Ohio received the “high-performance ESC” designation.
How many ESC locations are there in Ohio?
The ESC of Eastern Ohio is located in Canfield; there are 51 ESC locations in Ohio.
“We are honored to have achieved this status from the Ohio Department of Education because it is based on merit and the performance of our organization for our member districts,” said Dr. Traci Hostetler, superintendent of ESCEO.
To receive the high-performing distinction, an ESC has to generate a total cost savings of at least 5% for its client school districts for primary services secured from the ESC instead of another source.
According to Craig Burford, executive director of the Ohio ESC Association, the ESC of Eastern Ohio exceeded this 5% benchmark, with total savings of 27.96% in 2023.
“Ohio’s educational service centers provide exceptional cost savings to their school districts in addition to all of the other services and support they offer,” said Burford. “Over the past seven years, Ohio ESCs have averaged 36% savings to districts per year, for a total of nearly $587.6 million in savings statewide for primary services since 2016.”
What else does ESC of Eastern Ohio do?
ESC of Eastern Ohio has filled over 17,000 substitute positions, provided more than 8,000 hours of career counseling to students, and over 300 hours of professional development.
“Our commitment to our partner districts is in part established by the savings we provide, but that is not the full definition,” Hostetler said. “The care and support we provide extends to all aspects of facilitating what students need to be successful in school and life, and we’re thrilled by the partnerships we’ve formed with our member districts.”
