Liberty Local Schools students complete reading challenge, earn tickets to YSU game

Ninety-seven students from Pre-K through sixth grade in Liberty Local Schools completed the Youngstown State University basketball reading challenge.

Students who completed the challenge earned front-row tickets to a men’s basketball game and got to go on the court in Beeghly Center.

Forty-two students attended the game Dec. 14 against Bethany College. They were accompanied by a few of their teachers, including Mrs. McNees, Mrs. Takash, and Mrs. Collins, as well as principals Mr. Yemma and Mrs. Kohler.

The students got to participate in forming the walk-on high-five tunnel with the players during their announcements.

Lowellville hot cocoa at drop-off

During one blustering cold morning at Lowellville Local School drop-off, parents were surprised with a cup of hot chocolate.

Teachers and staff members mixed hot chocolate and served them to parents dropping students off for school.

They said it was a small token of appreciation for all parents do to start their morning.

Local A.E.A.O.N.M.S. chapter makes donation to Youngstown City Schools

The Youngstown chapter of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S. (Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine of North and South America) made a donation to local students.

The Al Asir Temple #210 donated $1,800 in food vouchers to gift families ahead of the holiday season for gifts and day-to-day expenses.

The vouchers were handed out to students at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School.
