Cardinal Mooney High School donates 1,800 pounds of food for Thanksgiving
In two weeks, Cardinal Mooney High School students, staff and community members collected more than 1,800 pounds of food to donate.
The school collected food until Thursday morning, when students organized and prepared it for delivery to Catholic Charities.
Catholic Charities is a part of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown; they’ll distribute over 1,300 items to 60 families throughout the Mahoning Valley, according to Cardinal Mooney campus minister Lori Radinsky.
“It’s a great day to be a Mooney Cardinal, because we were able to feed 65 families in the Valley by collecting 1,800 pounds of food and almost $2,000 in gift cards. The hard work and generosity of the Mooney Family is incredible,” said Radinsky.
Cardinal Mooney holds a yearly Thanksgiving food drive. Still, this year, it partnered with Catholic Charities and was promoted by Gary Rivers at Mix 98.9.
Rivers hosted four students during two different radio spots. Within minutes of each of them, donations rolled into Cardinal Mooney.
“When asked to feed 50 families, we feed 65. It’s a great feeling to exceed a goal in that manner,” said Radinsky.
