Boardman police investigate alleged assault at Mocha House, reports say
The Boardman Police Department is investigating what happened between a local business owner and a former employee outside The Mocha House on Tiffany Boulevard in Boardman.
Police reports show an unidentified person’s statement was taken in the afternoon Dec. 22 at the Boardman Police Department in reference to an alleged assault the previous day.
What the former employee said
He told Boardman police officers he was assaulted by the back door of The Mocha House at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 21 by the business’ owner.
Reports say the complainant told police the owner pushed him to the ground outside the rear entrance near the trash cans.
The complainant told police the owner then took his phone and the whole argument was about a misunderstanding. He said he wasn’t injured and didn’t seek medical attention but wanting to press charges.
What the owner said
However, when police contacted the owner, he said the complainant is contacting police and making up the assault as retaliation for being fired.
The owner said the complainant is a former employee who showed up for a shift “intoxicated and argumentative.”
Since he was intoxicated, the owner said he took the complainant’s phone and asked the complainant to come outside to talk and not cause a scene in front of customers.
That was when the owner said the complainant attacked him to get his phone back; the owner said he threw the complainant off his back and gave him his phone back.
Officers responded shortly after the altercation took place for a call about someone “being intoxicated and refusing to leave.”
The owner told police there are security cameras, but they didn’t capture the assault.
Police took statements from both the owner and the former employee, who told police they want to file assault charges against one another.
