Warren post of Ohio State Highway Patrol honors retiring electronic technician
The Ohio State Highway Patrol on Jan. 12 saluted trooper Donald M. Evans, electronic technician 2 at the Warren District Barracks, upon his retirement after 30 years of service with the patrol.
According to a post on the patrol’s social media site, two things have played important roles in trooper Evans’ life - service and electronics.
He served in the United States Air Force where he retired as a cryptologic computer repair tech. Before joining the Air Force, Donald installed car stereos.
A layoff with another job brought trooper Evans to the highway patrol in 1993. He started as a driver examiner.
Three years later, he became a technician, something that comes naturally to him. Each day on the job was different, he says.
Some days he traveled to patrol posts and repaired cars or equipment malfunctions.
Other days he repaired and calibrated Patrol equipment. He believes becoming an electronic technician was a good fit for him and says others who are people oriented, have an interest in electronics and cars, and hold an FCC license may be interested too.
Trooper Evans stated that people skills are important for this job, because you have to explain what is happening with the equipment to people who may not understand.
