Youngstown City School District releases statement regarding recent performance audit
The Youngstown City School District released the following statement regarding the school’s recent performance audit.
Statement from Youngstown City School District
“Youngstown City Schools worked cooperatively and transparently with the audit team for the Performance Audit that was required by HB 110. We know that one of the concerns that has been pointed out is the projected negative fund balance in a few years. It is important to note that this is not new information. Our district treasurer conducted the five-year forecast and reported publicly a projected negative fund balance in his last two forecasts and most recently at a December Board of Education meeting.
As stated publicly before and in our response to the auditor, the District is aware and working to find ways to be cost-effective while still maintaining its steady, continuous improvement. These developments include meeting 16 of the 24 annual benchmarks, in which the audit reports, “...if the District continues to make reasonable progress on its interim targets, it will be well positioned to meet at a majority of the benchmarks set in the Academic Improvement Plan.” Thus, with the majority of benchmarks being met, it would allow the District out of Academic Distress.”
