On Thursday, a jury found 58-year-old Todd Perkins guilty of rape and gross sexual imposition for sexually abusing his then 4-year-old biological daughter in 2015-16.

Perkins was first indicted on May 9, 2019, by the Mahoning County Grand Jury.

On May 7, 2021, Perkins originally pled no contest to two counts of rape and was sentenced to fifteen years in prison by Judge Maureen A. Sweeney. An appeals court returned the case, ruling that the court should have granted Perkins’ request for separate trials regarding his two child victims, one of which was the victim in this case.

“What happened to this young girl is truly horrendous,” Prosecutor Gina DeGenova said. “I commend her tremendous resilience and bravery. It is very gratifying to see the jury hold Todd Perkins accountable for sexually abusing his young daughter. This 11-year old girl has waited so many years for justice. Today she finally got it.”

“I also congratulate the hard work of my team of lawyers, Criminal Chief Rob Andrews and SVU Assistant Prosecutors Kevin Day and Daniel Yozwiak,” DeGenova said.

“This case and those like it are precisely why we initiated a Special Victims Unit and remain committed to ensuring that those who commit these monstrous crimes against children will be brought to justice. Rest assured, if you sexually assault children in Mahoning County, our dedicated team of law enforcement officers and prosecutors will do everything in our power to prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”
