Commercial rollover crash closes I-80 ramp; U.S. 62 ramp
The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren Post is investigating a one-vehicle roll-over, commercial traffic crash on the I-80 westbound ramp US 62 that resulted in non-life threatening injuries.
Officials said the crash happened at around 1:13 p.m. on Thursday in Hubbard Township.
According to reports, a red 2016 Kenworth tanker truck, driven by John Unruh, II, 55, of Youngstown, was traveling westbound on I-80, exiting onto U.S. 62. The Kenworth drove over the concrete divider and overturned onto the I-80 westbound ramp from U.S. 62.
The tanker was hauling brine water at the time of the crash, reports indicated. The tank was not ruptured and did not leak any material onto the roadway.
Unruh was transported by Eagle Joint District EMS to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said, adding Unruh was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. Unsafe speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Alcohol/drugs are not suspected to have been a factor.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Hubbard Township Police Department, Liberty Township Police Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, Trumbull County Hazmat, Eagle Joint District EMS, Hubbard Township Fire Department, Liberty Township Fire Department and C & C towing.
