No charges filed in Boardman after report of Facebook fraud
An Afton Avenue, Boardman woman reported to police Monday that she may have been scammed over the sale of a Honda Accord.
The woman told Boardman police officers she messaged a former work colleague about a Honda Accord that he displayed on Facebook for $2,500. The woman said the former work colleague told her she would have to pay a $200 deposit, saying the money would be refunded if she decided not to buy the car.
During subsequent communications through Facebook Messenger, the woman told officers the man kept asking for more money “to take care of paperwork and other issues.” When the woman heard the man was having problems delivering the car, she backed out asking for her money – which now totaled $800 in payments – back. However, the man refused.
The woman presented pictures of the car and screenshots of the conversation. The report stated that the vehicle for sale was only a few years old and worth more than what the man had listed it for.
Upon further investigation, a police officer noted in the report that he found that the man had reported the unauthorized use of his vehicle with his brother listed as the suspect. The report stated that the suspect in the Honda sales scam also had a history of theft and fraud.
The investigation is continuing with no charges filed.
