Walmart loss prevention personnel and Boardman police are investigating the exploits of a shopper who has reportedly stolen merchandise 13 times since the beginning of the year.

In a police report filed Thursday, officers relayed the testimony of store security who witnessed a man, who has been put on the store’s trespass list, using a price tag from a 97-cent grill brush item to “skip scan” higher-priced items at the self-checkout.

Security produced surveillance video of the suspect “skip scanning” on thirteen occasions at the self-checkout, beginning on Jan. 14, 2024. The value amount of the 25 items “skip scanned” totaled $327.

Police officers indicated they would consult with the prosecutor in Mahoning County Court No. 2 in Boardman about filing theft charges against the man.
