Manufacturing event held at Warren school
Students and parents got lessons about careers in manufacturing during an event held on March 12 at Jefferson PK-Grade 8 School in Warren.
Staff members of the Mahoning Valley Manufacturing Coalition and representatives from America Makes 3-D printing in Youngstown, Foxconn in Lordstown and Novelis were also present at the event.
According to the career fair organizers, the goal was to raise awareness of the skills needed to work in manufacturing and to show the world the impact that products made locally have.
Guidance counselors and teachers at Jefferson stated the Manufacturing Day event at America Makes in October 2023 was such a positive experience that they wanted to reach out again to these companies to expose their students to careers in manufacturing.
The companies represented provided hands-on activities. Students built creations out of blocks using instructions written on cards.
Warren G. Harding High School students also staged a demonstration about the district’s virtual welding program.
Parents of students in grades 3-5 were also invited to the event, and two fathers talked about the critical thinking and problem-solving lessons, things that are important to today’s American youth.
Another dad stated a career in manufacturing could take his child anywhere in the world.
At least a few of the students said they had participated in a STEM-related summer camp based on manufacturing careers.
