Warren man gets 30 months for failure to comply with police officer

The following cases were handled Thursday before Judge Ronald J. Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

  • James L. Beatty Jr., 52, of Northwest Boulevard NW, Warren, received a 30-month prison sentence for a conviction of a third-degree failure to comply with order or signal of police officer felony. The case involved a police chase July 17, 2023 in Warren. Prior to sentencing, Judge Rice noted the defendant’s long criminal history which included five previous failure to comply convictions and three previous OVI convictions. He also suspended the defendant’s driver’s license for life.
  • Oshai Dukes, 29, of Draper Avenue SE, Warren, pleaded guilty to felony charges of third-degree having weapon while under disability, fourth-degree improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and fourth-degree carrying a concealed weapon. Dukes, who could face a maximum six-year aggregate prison sentence, will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation. The case involved a Feb. 2, 2024 arrest, by Weathersfield police after Dukes was found in possession of a SCCY CPX 9mm handgun in his vehicle. Dukes, who agreed to forefeit the handgun as part of his plea deal, is not allowed to possess a firearm because of a previous robbery conviction in March 2011 in Trumbull County Juvenile Court.
