Struthers man arrested on charges of stealing 351 packs of baseball cards with his son, 7

A 36-year-old Struthers man was arrested after he and his 7-year-old son were apprehended by security personnel at the Boardman Walmart Superstore at 1300 Doral Drive after the two were caught with a buggy full of baseball cards that were taken out of the store without being paid for.

According to a Boardman police report, security officers at 1:44 p.m. on March 29 watched a man fill a buggy with hundreds of packs of baseball cards and then walk past all points of sale before exiting the store with his 7-year-old son.

The man, identified as Eric Wilson, 36, of Struthers, was taken to the store’s security office where police charged him with fifth-degree theft felony and endangering children. The baseball cards, all 351 packs valued at $3,396, were recovered.

What happened to the 7-year-old?

Reports said the boy was turned over to the custody of a grandmother before Wilson was arrested.

Court records showed Wilson was arraigned on fifth-degree theft felony and first-degree misdemeanor charges April 2 in Mahoning County Court in Boardman. Judge Joseph Houser set bond at $2,500 and set a preliminary hearing for April 23. Wilson was able to post the bond, records show.
