Boardman woman arrested after paramedics said she interfered with them helping her husband
A 35-year-old Boardman woman was charged with fourth-degree assault felony and a misdemeanor of misconduct at an emergency by Boardman police for her actions during a June 21, 2023, ambulance call to a home on Applecrest Court where paramedics were tending to a 35-year-old man having an asthma attack.
A Boardman firefighter told officers that the wife of the patient was causing the issue and had argued with paramedics about the treatment of the man and tried to interfere with the man being carried into the ambulance. According to the police reports, the woman tried to remove the man who was unconscious from the “stairchair” as they were taking him down the stairs. During the struggle, the paramedic received red marks on her arms and thighs because of the confrontation with the woman and her 12-year-old daughter who was also pushing and shoving, the report stated.
What did the suspect say?
The woman, identified as Kearia N. Wright, told police in the report that she was a nursing student and disagreed with the paramedic’s tactics in treating her husband. She also told officers the paramedic had pushed her, and she later called police to report she has a cellphone video which shows a paramedic “pushing me downstairs.”
After a long investigation, charges were filed last July against Wright, the report stated, and Boardman police were advised about 6:25 p.m. April 16 that Wright had turned herself into the Mahoning County jail on the felony charge.
According to records from Mahoning County Court in Boardman, Wright was arraigned at an initial hearing on April 16, Judge Joseph Houser set a personal bond, but no date for a preliminary hearing was given. Jail records show Wright was released after the arraignment.
