Man arrested on multiple felony warrants in Youngstown after traffic stop
A man was arrested on multiple charges on April 24 around 4:15 p.m. near Indianola Avenue and Utilis Street after the car he was a passenger in was pulled over for having too dark of a window tint.
According to the report, an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser performed a routine traffic stop on a white 2019 Volkswagen Jetta for having too dark of a tint on the front windows.
The officers noticed the passenger, identified as Robert Allen, reach under his seat after asking if there is a firearm in the vehicle and receiving “no” answers from both men in the car. The report states that the officer asked Allen to exit the vehicle and asked again if there was a gun in the car, Allen again said “no.”
The report states that Allen was acting very nervous, asking officers multiple questions and looking around frantically. He was placed in handcuffs for the officers’ safety and placed in the back seat of the cruiser.
The front passenger door was left opened by Allen and officers could see two prescription promethazine bottles on the passenger side floor. The report states that both men said that they did not have a prescription for the pills, but Allen later said they were his, but he ripped the label from the bottle.
The report states that the officers then performed a probable cause search of the Jetta, finding a loaded Glock pistol underneath the passenger seat where Allen had been sitting. A criminal background check was performed on Allen, uncovering multiple felony convictions in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court from 2016 for obstructing official business, forgery, and theft.
A further search found that Allen also had active warrants for his arrest in Youngstown for obstructing official business and in Niles for strangulation. The police report explains that Allen is deemed a fugitive due to the active warrants and prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The report states that the driver was given a verbal warning for the tinted windows and was released from the scene. Allen was transported to Mahoning County Jail where he was booked for felony charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, having weapons while under disability, and the Niles strangulation warrant. He was also booked on misdemeanor charges of possession of schedule V drugs and the obstructing official business warrant from Youngstown.
