Students, teachers, parents and staff at Boardman Local School District are welcoming a new superintendent to their classrooms.

The Board of Education unanimously chose Christopher Neifer as the next superintendent Tuesday night.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead in a community that I have called home for most of the last 30 years, and watched my son thrive in the academic and extracurricular programs as a Spartan,” Neifer said. “I look forward to leveraging my skills and experiences to build upon the district’s achievements and to lead initiatives that will propel it to even greater heights.”

He’s spent 28 years as an educator in several districts including Warren City Schools and East Palestine School District.

Neifer was principal for three years at East Palestine High School, and then superintendent for the last six years.

“The Board expresses gratitude for the participation of all applicants and their credentials and overall commitment to educational excellence was impressive,” board president John Fryda said. “We believe Chris is a proven leader, as shown through his navigating the recent community crisis in East Palestine, as well as his wide-ranging experiences as a long-time educator. His skills will be a perfect fit for Boardman Schools and we are excited to introduce him to our students, staff and community.”

Neifer’s three-year contract begins August 31. Current superintendent Tim Saxton is retiring at the end of July.
