A man reportedly assaulted a manager at Family Dollar by punching him in the face and biting his ear after the manager accused him of shoplifting

The assailant, 21-year-old Logan Brown, told police he got angry at the theft allegations when he did not take anything, according to the police report. Brown also thought the manager was reaching for a gun.

Boardman police were dispatched to the Family Dollar on Market Street on Tuesday afternoon after receiving reports of a fight. The manager of the store told police that he had been observing Brown and his friend walking inside the store.

The manager had followed Brown and took a picture of him to check with security cameras to see if he shoplifted anything. He then followed Brown out of the store to check to see if anything was in his pockets, according to the police report.

Brown also recounted to police that the manager had followed them out of the store, went into a car and reached for what he believed was a gun prior to the altercation.

Brown also admitted to getting angry at the manager for the accusations. He started punching the manager in the face repeatedly after he was confronted. When the manager tried to hold Brown back, Brown bit his ear.

Police observed the manager was bleeding from his face and ear and reported pain on his back when they arrived on the scene.

Brown had fled before officers arrived on scene but was caught by police on the corner of Market Street and East Midlothian Avenue. He was subsequently placed under arrest for assault.

Brown admitted to striking the Family Dollar manager. He injured his hand in the fight and also sustained other minor injuries.

Both Brown and the manager were transported to Mercy Health to have their injuries treated. The manager informed police that he wished to press charges, according to the report. Brown was later transported to the Mahoning County Justice Center to be detained before his court hearing.
