With Juneteenth right around the corner, the community is gearing up with fun events, including a soul food cook-off at Wean Park.

The cook-off will be hosted by the Youngstown Country Club and will take place on June 23 from 1:30-5 p.m. at 229 E. Front St. in downtown Youngstown.

Participants can enter in different categories like “best ribs,” “best mac ‘n cheese,” and “best dessert.” Winners for each category will be decided by popular vote.

Anyone wishing to attend must register beforehand and pay a $20 online fee. The fee is worth five taste tickets for attendees to try the food made in the competition and one vote per category.

The cook-off is a part of many community activities that Youngstown is hosting for Juneteenth. Interested attendees can learn about more events at the Youngstown Juneteenth website.
