A man was arrested after he reportedly hit two pedestrians and fled the scene.

Youngstown police were dispatched to an intersection between Vindicator Square and West Federal Street on Sunday after two women reported they were hit by a car while crossing the street.

The women told police that they had waited for the signal to give them the right-of-way and started walking down the crosswalk down West Federal Street. While they were crossing, a car was turning onto Vindicator Square and struck them both, according to the police report.

The person in the car, Carlos Flores, had briefly stopped and asked if the women were alright before he fled down Vindicator Square, according to the report.

The two women sustained minor injuries and were transported to Mercy Health — St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Police observed cuts and bruises on their elbows and forearms and one woman reported that she was having trouble bending her knee. They told police that neither of them lost conscious after they were hit.

Youngstown police were able to locate and arrest Flores after reviewing camera footage of the incident and determining the license plate number of the car that struck the women.
