A man was arrested on Monday after police reportedly caught him stealing nearly $3,000 worth of tools from Home Depot by throwing the items over a fence and loading it all into a pickup truck.

Boardman police were dispatched to the Home Depot on 7001 Southern Blvd. after employees reportedly caught the man trying to steal a cart full of items. Employees observed him on CCTV footage taking a shopping cart full of tools to the lawn and garden section without paying for any of it, according to a police report.

The man reportedly had climbed over large shelves and threw each item over the fence near the semi truck loading docks. He then left the store, got into his pickup truck, loaded the merchandise onto his vehicle and started to drive away, according to the police report.

Reports indicated Boardman police immediately surrounded the man, blocking him from driving any further. He surrendered to police and was arrested on theft accusations.

Police reportedly recovered 11 items from his pickup truck, including a Milwaukee router and drill. The total amount of the stolen items was $2,921.98.

A Home Depot employee told police that this was not the first time the store had an incident with the man and that she started watching him on cameras because he had prior theft allegations from the same store.

The man was transported to the Mahoning County Jail and given a criminal trespass warning.
