’Loyal and local:’ Business owners need your support at Saturday’s Youngstown Flea
Loyal and new customers are encouraged to stop by the Youngstown Freedom Flea happening from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. tomorrow at 365 E. Boardman St. in Youngstown.
There’s free parking and free admission at the July-rendition of the Youngstown Flea for all ages as well as pets on leashes.
From artisans and crafters, to food trucks and baked goods gurus, there’s something for sale that will interest just about everyone who visits the Youngstown Flea.
Why people should come out to support local businesses at Youngstown Flea?
Owner and founder of the Youngstown Flea Derrick McDowell said businesses in Youngstown need local support now more than ever.
“For everything going on in the city of Youngstown right now, you have a downtown that’s being challenged over and over again, from COVID-19 to construction to now, a traffic explosion in our downtown,” said McDowell. “They need loyal shoppers. They need loyal supporters in order to make it through. Sometimes, it could be that one customer, that one loyal purchase that gets them through to the next transaction, to the next month, to the next calendar year of business.”
Since the Youngstown Flea is on the east end of downtown, he said there haven’t been any changes to parking plans for this weekend’s customers and vendors.
“Folks coming out to support local businesses can feel comfortable and safe to know that we’ve got plenty of free parking on this end of downtown,” said McDowell. “It’s a noble, valiant effort to be downtown these days, and we appreciate that. With some street closures, if we see a major response in shoppers and supporters, sometimes that free parking gets sucked up pretty quickly. We’re just asking people to come and engage with the city of Youngstown as best as they can.”
