Alliance man dies, woman in critical condition after being struck by train in Sebring
Troopers from the Canfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal train-versus-pedestrian crash early Monday morning.
The crash occurred at 1:59 a.m. on the Norfolk Southern line near Pennsylvania Avenue between the cross streets of 16th and 17th streets in the village of Sebring in southwest Mahoning County.
The Amtrak passenger train was carrying 136 passengers. None of the train occupants were injured, the report stated.
An unidentified female and Michael Lawson, Jr., 21, of Alliance, were both struck by the train, reports indicated.
Lawson was pronounced dead at the scene. The female is in critical condition at the Summa Hospital in Akron.
The female and Lawson were walking adjacent to the tracks prior to the train approaching. It appears that they attempted to cross the tracks before the train struck them, the report stated.
Troopers are working to positively identify the female. This incident remains under investigation, the report stated.
