Students back to school; Youngstown police photo speed enforcement restarts at 21 school zones
The school zone safety cameras in the city of Youngstown will be back on for the 2024/2025 school year.
Twenty-one school zones will be photo enforced for speed on all school days until 6 p.m., when children are present or likely to be present, according to a news release from the Youngstown Police Department.
When does the school zone speed warning period end?
A two-week warning period will go into effect Wednesday where drivers will not be given a citation for any speed violation, but rather will be sent a warning in the mail.
On Sept. 18, enforcement will begin and violators will be mailed a citation, the report states.
To help better warn drivers, Blue Line Solutions has installed flashing yellow beacons in the following school zones that didn’t have preexisting flashers installed before.
These school zone beacons will be flashing (blinking yellow) before, during and after arrival and dismissal times for each individual school indicating the 20-mph reduced speed limit.
