Mahoning County prosecutor hosts annual drive for local domestic violence shelters
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“Our Special Victims Unit works relentlessly in the courtroom to send a clear message that domestic violence will not be tolerated in Mahoning County,” said Mahoning County Prosecutor Gina DeGenova. “As Prosecutor, it is also critical to support community initiatives that ensure that survivors of domestic violence have access to clothing, food and other necessities, allowing them to focus on rebuilding their lives.”
For the fourth year, the prosecutor’s office and South Range High School students are organizing a donation drive benefiting local domestic violence shelters.
Over the past three years, they’ve collected and donated over 14,000 items to the domestic violence program at the Sojourner House, part of COMPASS Community and Family Services.
The Sojourner House offers shelter and other essential services to victims of domestic violence and families across Mahoning County.
Any other schools or local organizations who wish to participate can contact Isabella Caruso-Harris, the director of programming for the prosecutor’s office by sending an email to isabella.caruso@mahoningcountyoh.gov, or calling (330) 740-2330 ext. 7259.
