Three newly-renovated homes are up for sale in the Idora neighborhood of Youngstown, commemorated with a tree-planting ceremony hosted by community organizations.

In April, the Mahoning County Land Bank and Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation unveiled three of six newly constructed homes on Mineral Springs Ave. in Youngstown.

Ian Beniston, the executive director of YNDC, said these homes are just the beginning for the neighborhood.

“We’re excited to see these investments strengthen our communities and provide affordable, quality housing for those who need it most,” he said.

Each 1,500-square-foot home is listed at $180,000.

Three more homes will be built on Mineral Springs Avenue as part of the organizations’ efforts to offer affordable housing for new buyers in Youngstown.

The houses were built with three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, a detached garage for two cars and first-floor laundry room.

Debora Flora is the executive director of the Mahoning County Land Bank.

“These homes reflect the redevelopment expertise YNDC has built over the past decade and the unique capabilities of the Land Bank to acquire and transform vacant, unproductive properties,” she said.

Homeowners will be living about a block from the East Cohasset Hike and Bike Trail in Mill Creek MetroParks, the Youngstown Playhouse and three blocks from the Ford Nature Center.

“By working together, we’re able to breathe new life into neighborhoods like this one, turning vacant land into quality housing options that contribute to the continued revitalization of Youngstown and the surrounding areas,” Flora said.

These residences are eligible for the city of Youngstown’s $10,000 down payment assistance program. There’s an additional down payment assistance available for $18,000 for buyers who finance through Huntington Bank.

Qualified buyers must have a household income at or below 80 percent of the area median income.

Purchase of these homes are limited to income-eligible buyers who commit to owning and occupying the home.

“The Welcome Home Ohio funding will continue to make a lasting impact in the Youngstown area, not only supporting the development of new homes but also aiding in the renovation of existing homes,” Beniston said.
