Don’t expect San Francisco 49ers Jed York to criticize team after loss

Don’t expect any “sour grapes” or post-game criticism from San Francisco 49er President Jed York.

In a pre-game interview made four days prior to the game with a San Francisco area television outlet, York said it is not his style to hold post-game press conferences or issue public criticism of players or coaches.

This is the second time that York’s 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game. Also after the 2012 season, the 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.

Four years ago, the Chiefs prevailed 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV after the 49ers led by 10 early in the fourth quarter.

This past Sunday in Super Bowl LVIII, the 49ers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first half, but was caught by the Chiefs in the third quarter. Throughout the fourth period and extra period, the game went back and forth with the Chiefs winning the second overtime in Super Bowl History. The Super Bowl record for the 49ers and the DeBartolo family is now 5-3.

York’s uncle, Edward J. DeBartolo was 5-0 as 49ers owner during the 1980s and 1990s.

The NFL team in the early 2000s was taken over by DeBartolo’s sister Denise York and her husband Dr. John York, who are now co-chairmen of the board, when Eddie DeBartolo had to give up the franchise amid a scandal.

Jed York has been running the team for 15 years and in that pre-game television interview, he perhaps was preparing himself for another Super Bowl loss.

“I felt more pressure the first two (Super Bowls). I know what it’s like to lose a Super Bowl. I’m still alive. It didn’t kill me. I think that’s the altitude I feel I’m taking. We don’t need to look outside of our locker room to ask people what is like to be here,” York told NBC Bay Area reporter Raj Mathai.
