Fitch, Champion, Canfield leads first softball Super 7 rankings

The greater Mahoning Valley is loaded with some of the best softball teams in the state again this season, led by defending Division I state champion Austintown Fitch which is ranked No. 1 in our initial mahoningmatters.com Super 7 softball poll.

Austintown Fitch

Led by standout pitcher Sydnie Watts, the Austintown Fitch Falcons are off to an unbeaten 1-0 start including a 5-0 win over fellow state power Canfield.

Warren Champion

Tradition-rich Warren Champion, one of the top 3 teams in Ohio, is off to a 2-0 start with wins over LaBrae and Youngstown Ursuline. The Golden Flashes have outscored their first two opponents, 27-6.

Canfield

The Canfield Cardinals, one of the top Division II teams in the area, are 2-1 on the season (its lone loss to unbeaten Fitch) with two wins over Geneva.

Boardman

The Boardman Spartans are unbeaten at 2-0 with season-opening impressive wins over the Howland Tigers and Akron Hoban Knights.

Poland

The Poland Bulldogs, one of the top D3 teams in the area, are 2-0 and have outscored their first two opponents 35-3.

South Range

The South Range Raiders are unbeaten on the season at 2-0 with season-opening wins over Girard and Jefferson.

Western Reserve

Western Reserve is 1-0 after a season-opening win over the Jackson-Milton Bluejays.
