A late comeback for the Canfield softball team fell short Wednesday as the Cardinals lost 5-4 to Louisville on Wednesday at home in a game between two Ohio state powers.

The loss broke the Cardinals’ 14-game winning streak while the Leopards improved to 15-2 with the win.

Louisville jumped out early to a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning before Canfield scored four runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a three-run home run from Leah Figueroa and a sacrifice fly by Sami Economous before Louisville’s Katelyn Miller recorded the save for the Leopards.

Cardinals pitcher Malena Toth struck out 11 Louisville batters in the loss.

Canfield came into the game as Ohio’s top-ranked team in the Division II softball poll.
