Youngstown police report no citations, arrests from Wednesday curfew sweep
Youngstown police officials reported no citations or arrests from the first night of a curfew sweep which was announced during a Wednesday press conference.
“Prior to the 11 p.m. curfew, Youngstown police and Juvenile Justice Center representatives paid numerous home visits to at-risk and high-risk youth identified by the agencies in order to help ensure both compliance with any existing court orders but also to offer resources, guidance and channels to successful outcomes for themselves and their families,” Youngstown Police Detective Jason Simon said. “(After curfew) all partners conducted checks of businesses, main roads, and side streets throughout the city looking for any juveniles who may still be out past curfew hours.”
Simon said the results are encouraging.
“To us, this indicates a successful evening of making positive contacts through the community while getting the message across that curfew will be strictly enforced,” Simon said. “Though the Patrol Division checks for curfew violations on a nightly basis, several other (unannounced) curfew enforcement operations will be conducted during the remainder of the summer months.”
