Mahoning County Farm Bureau honors local farmer
Each year, an affluent Mahoning County agricultural community member is honored with a distinguished service award.
Previous honorees have nominated and selected this year’s award winner, David Kenreich.
Meet David Kenreich
Kenreich and his family have been positively impacting the growth of the agricultural community for generations.
Kenreich’s first job in the community was delivering farm-fresh eggs and produce to neighbors in Mahoning County on the extensive route his grandfather and father laid out.
The Kenreich family grew potatoes, fruits and vegetables. David served in the Vietnam War while his family managed the farm.
David returned to Ohio after the war and married Judy in 1968.
Serving the Mahoning County Farm Bureau
“I’ve been a Farm Bureau member ever since the day [my] father said he wouldn’t pay for it anymore,” said Kenreich.
In 1993, Kenreich had to sell his last potato crop and develop a new plan after years of unpleasant weather and low crop yield.
Soon he started working for the Salem Fruit Growers before planting his raspberry crop.
He’s still tending to the raspberries and 2,000 pounds of rhubarb to sell to the White House Fruit Farm, Huffman’s and Haus’s Cidermill.
According to the farm bureau, Kenreich has been a delegate representing Mahoning County Farm Bureau at the Ohio Farm Bureau annual meeting and served as Mahoning County Farm Bureau president for many years.
“We thank David for his service and endless efforts for agriculture and the farm bureau. Congratulations on receiving this award,” the bureau wrote.
