Simply Slavic Festival organizers support Youngstown State students with scholarships
Organizers of Simply Slavic Festival in Youngstown awarded two Youngstown State University students with $1,000 scholarships.
Andrew Kakosia, a first-year graduate student in the Dana School of Music and Caitlin Hillard, a junior in the Beeghly College of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education, were selected as this year’s scholarship winners.
They received the scholarships during a dinner at the end of August at St. Peter and St. Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church on North Belle Vista Ave. in Youngstown.
Kakosia is studying Music Theory and Composition at YSU. He’s also a Lučina Slovak Folk Ensemble member and part of the National Slovak Society.
Hillard is a psychology major at YSU, as well as assistant director and performer with the Happy Hearts Jr. Tamburitzans.
The two-day festival put on by volunteers is a collaboration with Modern Methods Brewing Company based in Warren. They manufactured a special festival beverage in 2018: a Czech Amber Lager called Rodina.
