Columbiana County man sentenced to at least 12 years in jail for child pornography

Columbiana County resident Matthew D. Severs received a sentence of 12 to 18 years on several charges of child pornography.

The Negley man pleaded guilty and was sentenced in Columbiana Common Pleas Court to seven counts of illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material.

Severs will also have to register as a sexual offender for twenty five years upon his release.

According to WKBN, a grand jury returned a secret indictment in April last year against Severs, who was accused of photographing a minor in a state of nudity several different times between 2019 and 2021.

According to WFMJ, Columbiana County Prosecutor Vito J. Abruzzino recommended sentencing Severs to 10 years in jail.

Prosecutor Abruzzino and his staff thanked the work of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office for investigating this case.

Abruzzino said the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office remains dedicated to prosecuting assaults that victimize children to the fullest extent of the law.
