Youngstown man faces pre-trial on fatal fire charge in death of 16-year-old in Warren

The following cases were handled Wednesday in front of Judge Sean O’Brien of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

  • Brendan Daviduk, 29, of Youngstown, appeared with his two attorneys for pre-trial in the capital aggravated murder case involving the Jan. 19 fatal fire on Nevada Street Northwest that killed 16-year-old Chassidy Broadstone. The judge informed Daviduk and his attorneys, Louis DeFabio and Rhys Cartwright-Jones, that a co-defendant in the case – Zachery Gurd – had agreed to a plea deal which included his cooperation with prosecutors. Any statement Gurd makes to prosecutors will be forwarded to the defense team, and assistant Prosecutor Christopher Becker said the proffer with Gurd will be conducted before the end of January. The next pre-trial for Daviduk is set for March 6, with a trial date of May 14 scheduled.
  • Meko Howard, 32, of Warren, pleaded guilty in two cases, the first on charges of possession of a fentanyl-related compound which involved a sheriff’s office investigation in April 2021. The second case against Howard saw him plead guilty to having weapons while under disability and tampering with evidence after Warren police investigated a shots fired call on Jan. 23, 2022 in the Douglas Street NW neighborhood. Howard will be sentenced after undergoing a background investigation conducted by probation officers.
  • Shawn Bailey, 31 of North River Road NW, Warren Township, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree trespass into a habitation charge. Bailey, who could face up to 18 months in prison, will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by the Probation Department. The case involved a Warren Township police investigation of a break-in into a home in the 100 block of North River Road on Aug. 15, 2023. The judge continued Bailey’s bond until sentencing.
