Officials hope solar eclipse makes Trumbull County a tourist attraction

Trumbull County Tourism and Convention Bureau is hoping it can become a tourist destination April 8 for those looking to make the eclipse spectacle something special.

The bureau is providing the public with updates regarding eclipse programs, viewing locations, eclipse glasses information, and eclipse times on the website www.TrumbullEclipse.com.

This rare celestial event is the first total solar eclipse visible in Ohio since 1806. Most of Trumbull County lies within the path of totality, offering residents and visitors a unique opportunity to witness the moon’s shadow as it gracefully passes over the sun.

When is the solar eclipse?

The eclipse is expected to begin at 2 p.m. local time on April 8, with the total eclipse phase commencing at 3:15 p.m. During the full eclipse, the sky will transform into twilight, and streetlights will flicker on, emulating the arrival of nightfall.

According to a bureau news release, Trumbull County offers several prime viewing locations for spectators watching this once-in-a-lifetime event: The Kinsman Library, Mosquito Lake State Park and Lakeview Recreation area in Bazetta, the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles, the Grand Resort in Howland, and Warren G Harding’s Mollenkopf Stadium in Warren. Each location will provide varying durations of totality, and most encourage attendees to bring their own eclipse-viewing glasses. The bureau had 5,000 glasses to sell and it has already sold out of its supply.

What is Trumbull County Tourism doing to promote the solar eclipse?

Trumbull County Tourism has been working to gather information on eclipse programs and activities for all interested individuals. Various educational and entertainment events will be hosted throughout the county, allowing visitors to enhance their eclipse-viewing experience and learn more about this remarkable astronomical phenomenon.

To ensure the safety of all viewers, it is vital to wear approved solar eclipse glasses. Trumbull County Tourism advises purchasing glasses that comply with international safety standards, clearly marked withISO 12312-2.

As the demand for eclipse glasses increases, it is recommended that individuals obtain their glasses well in advance from reputable vendors provided by the American Astronomical Society.
