Man arrested on charge of rummaging through vacant Youngstown home
A 58-year-old man was charged with criminal trespassing after he was found rummaging through a vacant house on the 900 block of East Indianola Avenue about 10:50 a.m. on March 13, according to a Youngstown police report.
The suspect was charged in Youngstown Municipal Court with a minor misdemeanor.
The police report stated that a police officer went to the rear of the vacant home and saw the intruder, exiting the garage pulling a car hood from a stack of broken metal items neatly arranged against the home’s rear door.
The man told officers he was on the property looking for scrap. According to the report, the property has been vacant for several years and a neighbor told officers she believes the owner lives in California but a management company is supposed to take care of the property but has not done so in eight months. The notice on the door said the property is being maintained by Five Brothers Default Management Company, but an attempt to contact the company was not successful, the report stated.
