Vienna Township man taken to hospital after standoff at Circle K near Ohio 5 and 46

Deputies from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office on April 20 assisted Bazetta Township and Cortland police officers at the Circle K located at the intersection of state Routes 5 and 46 to assist in a standoff situation involving a mental patient.

Deputies monitored public safety and maintained a perimeter around the scene, which was able to be resolved peacefully, according to the sheriff’s report.

According to the Trumbull County 911 report, the authorities were called to the convenience store shortly before 10 a.m. to investigate the report a 72-year-old Vienna man inside with a pistol who was threatening suicide. Authorities managed to clear the building of customers and staff and were able to talk to the man who eventually put the gun down and was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation, according to reports.

According to 911 report, the man, identified as Louis Fey, said he was depressed after he had lost his wife two years ago. Fey was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor charge of inducing panic and Trumbull County Central District Court records show he will be arraigned at 9 a.m. April 26 before Judge Thomas A. Campbell.

Sheriff deputies and the Ohio State Highway Patrol were able to block access to the store from the roadway during the incident.
