Reported stabbing at Northeast Ohio Correctional Center leaves inmate severely injured
An inmate at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center was stabbed multiple times on Wednesday, according to a police report.
The inmate, Phillip Overton, was promptly transported to Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in an ambulance with prison staff escorting him. Doctors said he may require surgery for his wounds.
Overton was stabbed twice on his forehead, twice on his left arm and twice on his left knee, according to the report. Upon learning he was a state inmate, police alerted state authorities of his condition.
Youngstown police have no suspects on who the assaulter was, and the matter remains under investigation.
