Man critically injured after reportedly exchanging gunfire with Youngstown police

An exchange of gunfire between Youngstown police and a man left the man severely injured.

Youngstown police responded to a call on June 13 regarding a domestic disturbance. According to reports, they were immediately met with gunfire from a man upon reaching the house.

After shots were exchanged between officers and the man, whose identity was not disclosed, the man was listed in critical condition, according to the police report, and transported to Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

No officers were injured during the encounter.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation reports it is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting. Youngstown police will also conduct its own internal investigation.
