Spring officially began on Mar. 20, but it looks like summer heat may already be in the mix.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), “above-normal temperatures are favored,” in most of the country for April through June.

Similarly, AccuWeather experts are predicting “a record-breaking March heat dome” for some parts of the US, but will it reach Ohio? Here’s what to know:

Is a heat dome coming for Ohio?

While NWS experts predict “above-normal temperatures,” this spring and an overall increase in drought conditions, folks in Ohio shouldn’t worry about a heat dome just yet.

“The highest likelihood of enhanced warmth ranges from the Southwest to the Inter-Mountain West,” according to NWS forecasters.

States facing heat dome-like temperatures are California, Arizona and Nevada, ultimately shutting down hiking trails and increasing drought risks. Temperatures in these states will feel like summer and while Ohio won’t feel anything close to a heat dome yet, temperatures are expected to be “leaning above-normal” for the rest of spring.

NWS also forecasts “likely above normal” precipitation chances, so drought conditions will stay on the very low end for Ohio.
