Cookouts, pool time and plenty of sun. Or at least, that is what we hope for on the 4th of July.
Rain and thunderstorms during the weekend of 4th of July just sound like a recipe for disaster, so let’s look ahead and see what weather we should expect this weekend in the Youngstown area.
Here’s what to know:
What will the weather be like in Youngstown on the 4th of July?
Well, for one thing: hot. Currently, the area is under a heat advisory, but let’s check later this week:
On the 3rd, it looks like temperatures could reach 98 and on the 4th of July, highs will be around 93, according to National Weather Service experts.
AccuWeather experts are predicting much of the same, with highs around 90 to 95. And although there will be some sun, a heavy thunderstorm or two is also possible.
Hot weather safety
According to the Red Cross, here’s what to do in hot weather:
- Drink plenty of fluids. Encourage others to drink plenty of fluids, too.
- Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible.
- If your home does not have air conditioning, go to your predesignated cool location.
- Wear lightweight, loose clothing and take cool showers or baths.
- Check on your friends, family, and neighbors. Help them prevent heat illness.
Grill safety
Here are some tips for grilling safety, from the National Fire Protection Association:
- For propane grills, check the gas tank for leaks before use in the months ahead. (Watch NFPA’s video on how to check for leaks below.)
- Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
- Place the grill well away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it.
- Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grilling area.
- Never leave your grill unattended when in use.
