Sharpsville, Pa., man charged in Southington fatal crash

NEWTON FALLS – A Sharpsville, Pa., man on Tuesday was arraigned on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, OVI and failure to stop at a stop sign for a fatal traffic crash that occurred late Nov. 17 at the intersection of U.S. Route 422 and state Route 305 in Southington.

The crash, which occurred after 10 p.m., claimed the life of Tyler Richmond, 23, of Warren, who was pronounced dead at the scene of injuries.

Charged was Joseph P. Yuran, 55, of Sharpsville, Pa., who was ordered held without bond in Trumbull County Jail until his preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 7 before Newton Falls Municipal Judge Philip Vigorito.

According to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Yuran’s red 2016 Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling westbound on Route 305 and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 422 and struck the red 2016 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Richmond.

Yuran was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was charged after undergoing a field sobriety test conducted by troopers, the report stated.

Yuran also submitted to blood/alcohol and urine tests at the patrol post. His BAC was recorded at .196 which was above the legal limit of .08 BAC for drunk driving in Ohio.

Assisting at the crash scene were Southington Township Fire and EMS personnel and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department, the report states.

The crash remains under investigation.
