Judge re-appoints two current Mill Creek Metro Park board of commissioners
Judge Robert N. Rusu of the Mahoning County Probate Court re-appointed two of the current Mill Creek Metro Park board members whose terms were set to expire at the end of this year.
Jeff Harvey and Paul Olivier have been re-appointed to park’s board of commissioners.
Both Harvey and Olivier were originally appointed to the Board in 2018.
Judge Rusu said he was aware of the recent outcry by some residents about the deer “culling” process recently implemented by the park and their desire to have someone they chose to serve on the board.
However, Judge Rusu said that he is bound by the Ohio Judicial Code of Conduct Rule 2.4 (A) which states that “a Judge shall not be swayed by public clamor or fear of criticism.”
The Board has the oversight of the Park, all of its holdings, its executive director, employees and policies of the organization. It is an enormous responsibility that the Board of Commissioners undertake. They receive no compensation of any form and serve out of the shear duty to make the best decisions for the park and all individuals using the park.
Olivier and Harvey were vetted by a selection committee convened in 2017.
The selection committee consisted of 10 community members who had direct contact and long established relationships with the park. The selection committee interviewed all of the candidates and then made suggestions to Judge Rusu on who they believed would make a good commissioner. Judge Rusu said he created this process to give the public more input into the selection process.
