Warren man gets 2-3 years of prison on cocaine charge
The following cases were handled Wednesday before Judge Cynthia Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:
- Amadd T. Jones, 36, of Orlo Street, Warren, was sentenced to an indefinite 2- to 3-year prison term for conviction of a second-degree possession of cocaine offense. Jones had pleaded guilty to the amended indictment on Nov. 27, 2023, according to court records. The case involved a Feb. 19, 2023, arrest and investigation made by Warren police. Judge Rice said Jones rated at a high risk to reoffend on his pre-sentence background report and was not eligible for probation.
- Kewon Young, 31, of Broadview, Ill., received an 18-month prison sentence on a third-degree having weapons while under disability conviction. Young, who pleaded guilty to the offense in November 2023, rated as a high-risk to reoffend and was not eligible for probation because of his significant criminal history, according to the judge. The case evolved when a firearm was found during a April 17, 2023, traffic stop conducted by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers. Because of past felony convictions, Young was prohibited from carrying firearms.
- Timothy J. Yousif, 36, of Collins Ohio, pleaded guilty to a third-degree aggravated possession of drugs felony. Yousif, who could face up to 36 months in prison, will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by county probation officers. The case involved a Jan. 10, 2023, traffic stop conducted by Niles police officers on Youngstown-Warren Road, where 15.51 grams of methamphetamine was found in Yousif’s 2021 Toyota vehicle, according to prosecutors.
- Daivahn M. Brown, 27, of Atlantic Street NE, Warren, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree strangulation felony. Brown, who could face from six to 12 months in prison, will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by probation officers. The case involved a disturbance call to the Avalon Inn and resort on June 30, 2023. Howland officers responded to a physical altercation between a man and woman that was captured by the business’ security cameras. The altercation occurred in a second floor hallway. At one point during the video, it appears that the man’s left hand was placed around the front of the 24-year-old woman’s throat, while his other hand is on the back of her neck, according to Howland police reports.
- Lyle Holton, 65, of North park Avenue, Warren, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault. Holton, who could get up to 180-days in the county jail, will be sentenced following a pre-sentence investigation. The case involved an incident on May 19, 2023, where a12-year-old boy told police a man, later identified as Holton was riding a motorcycle with no shirt or shoes and hit him. A police report stated Holton “had cornered” youths, accusing them of breaking out the windows of cars parked at his business. The report stated that Holton admitted to police that he had purposely driven his Harley-Davidson Electra toward the child, who suffered leg injuries. As part of the plea deal that reduced the charge that originally was a fourth-degree aggravated assault felony. As part of the agreement with prosecutors, Holton agreed to pay the medical bills of the victim. The plea deal averted a jury trial that was scheduled this week before Judge Rice.
